Welcome!
Here is the journal of a newlywed in her early 20's in Central Alberta, Canada. Moving to Calgary during August.
In September you will get to hear my ramblings about going to University also. I am in my 3rd year of Natural Sciences (minor: Biology and Chemistry). I switched programs after 2 years in the Education (teaching) program.
Mostly my daily happenings, as well as some articles and quotes I found interesting enough to share!
Hope you enjoy your stay, and please let me know you were here!

Im now trying to catch up on all the housework from the weekend...I promise to return later today
and do some catching up.
Just out blog hopping and found yours. I hope your wedding is everything you ever dreamed of. Stop in sometime!

The weekend was pretty good. My mom is in Vancouver, and she asked me to "look after things" while she was gone. My dad is out at the cabin. She pretty much meant that she doesn't trust my little brother not to have a party. (He's 18, just graduated high school this June). He's had a couple of parties in the past, but I really didn't want to be bothered. She expected Chris and I to actually sleep over there.
Friday was Chris's birthday, and we went out to supper and then out to our neighbourhood pub (it's kinda a dive, but we like it). I told everyone at the restaraunt it was his b-day, and he got mad. They didn't even sing to him or embarass him or anything, just gave him a free piece of cake. He was still mad. Oh well, I had fun!
We then went to my parent's house and checked up on my brother (he was fine - of course). Then we went out for drinks with some friends. I asked the bartender what they do for people on their b-days, and turns out they give out a free shot! PERFECT!
The waitress and I decided a "muff dive" would be best. My co-workers made me do one of these when I was out with them for a mini-bachelorette party. It's a shot that's buried in a glass of whipped cream, and you can't use your hands to get it. Basically you get a face full of whipped cream with a nasty shot at the bottom! Lots of fun (for the people watching you!). Then Chris's brother got him a couple more shots. Chris was being such a spoil-sport and wouldn't do them. They were sitting in front of him for probably 10 or 15 minutes, then he took the shot out of the whipped cream (with his fingers
) and did it that way. Then he had one shot his bro gave him, and refused to have the other one! So his brother had it, so it wouldn't go to waste. Chris was being so grumpy for some reason. I chose to ignore him after awhile. I know, I know. I am his wife. But damn! Why should I let him bring ME down too? We went home around midnight, as that's when our friends left. I bought some Captin Black cigars on the way home at 7/11. Chris usually loves cigars, that's why I bought them. Then he even refused to have a cigar! So his brother and I each had one, and walked home. I'm not sure what was bothering him (he wouldn't tell me), but Saturday morning he was totally fine. I wonder if he was sad about getting older or something.
We stayed in bed until noon, and Chris made us brunch (I love it when he cooks for me!). We then bought an entire dining room set and buffet hutch for the house. I love new stuff!! We checked up on my brother again (once again, he was fine!). We then packed up some more things and went to Calgary. Our landlord had at least cleaned the upstairs carpets and painted the living room/front entrance. The lino floors were still disgusting. I cleaned more, but I didn't bring a broom or mop, so couldn't do the floors. Chris put together all our furniture, and stained our buffet hutch and a set of shelves. We stayed overnight (our first night in the house!), and went shopping on Sunday. We went to Ikea (I love that store!) and Linens n Things. Spending our wedding money!
I haven't been able to buy anything, since we've been so broke, so it is nice to finally spend our wedding money. And it turns out I am better at getting around Calgary than Chris! This was quite surprising to me! I just remember things easier I think, including maps.
On the way home we had a bit of a catastrophe. We were driving on Hwy 2, which is a busy, fast 4 lane, divided highway. The back of Chris's truck was full of big sheets of cardboard and garbage, and he had a net over top to keep it down. The net was attached to his metal tool box which was sitting width-wise across the back of his truck (full of tools), and attached to the tail-gate and sides. We were cruising down the highway at about 120 km/hr in the fast lane, and a big gust of wind caught the cardboard. This ripped the entire toolbox off, ripped open the tail gate, and cardboard and garbage were strewn across the highway. Of course this happened just as I had closed my eyes to try and sleep. The tool box nearly hit the car behind us, and the car behind them almost hit them. I can't even begin to imagine what would've happened if the car behind us was closer... A trucker stopped to help pick up the garbage, and all traffic then stopped. It was backed up several kilometers just because of us! It sure shook me up! I actually gave a prayer thanking God for allowing no one to be hurt.
The rest of the evening was good, we went to Chris's parents house for his birthday supper. They gave him about 9 bottles of wine for a b-day gift! Chris was thrilled! What a good idea! We just got a counter-top wine cooler, and his parents wanted to make sure we filled it apparently! We won't be going thirsty for a long time!
We stayed over at my parents house, because I was feeling guilty for not doing so Friday or Saturday, when I had said I would. Sure regretted that one! We got there around 9:45 pm, and Dustin didn't even come out of the basement. He wasn't up by the time we left either. We stayed in the guest bedroom, which has an east-facing window with bamboo blinds. Bamboo blinds do not stop any light. So we had a street light shining in all night, then the sun shining in from about 5 am on. Needless to say, I didn't sleep much.
Chris has now lost his wallet. He looked everywhere, and can't find it anywhere. I'm willing to bet it fell out of his pocket or his truck when everything flew out, because when he pulled over, we jumped out so fast... He wants to go back to Calgary tonight anyways and check the house, but I doubt it's there. What a pain... having to cancel all of his credit cards and get new ID, etc. Oh well. Not much you can do about it.
