Kris S: Hi...just stopping by to catch up a bit. I don't get a chance to do much visiting any more. I hope you've shaken off the depression - there's nothing worse in the world than feeling blue! Have a lovely holiday season, Brittany! Merry Christmas!
loopychick: I stayed with an old school friend in spruce grove near Edmonton for 2 weeks recently! She moved there from the UK. I loved Alberta!
shinydemon: are you as busy and overwhelmed by midterms as i am right now? eeeks....
Kris S: Hi, Brittany! Just dropping in while I have a little extra time on the computer today to say hello. Did that girl who cried end up coming back to class?! How strange! Hope this finds you well!
cathi: LOL, I moved 3 years ago and we still have boxes in the bedroom, and stuff in the garage. There's something to be said for boxes that remain unopened for ages, perhaps what's in them isn't needed? Nah, it's the next great archeological find.Good luck with your university courses!
ANGEL: JUST STOP TO SAY HI
Leenie: Sorry it's taken forever to get over here...I had a really busy Monday Im now trying to catch up on all the housework from the weekend...I promise to return later today and do some catching up.
Kris S: Thank you so much for the encouraging words you left on my poem entry. I am working my way thru some difficult things but I know I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. He has never let me down, and I know He never will. I just have to remember the 'flames' of the trial will abate! Hope this finds YOU well!
Starlight: Hi Brittany! Just out blog hopping and found yours. I hope your wedding is everything you ever dreamed of. Stop in sometime!
Kris S: Hi, Brittany! Thanks so much for stopping by my site and leaving such a nice tag! I was 20 when I got married, too! Seems like a million years ago now, haha! Congratulations on the wedding this weekend...may you be blessed with many happy years ahead of you, too!

Exciting!!!

  • Mood:

Well, I had my first day of orientation today at the University of Calgary. I think I was more nervous about taking the C-Train to school than anything! I couldn't get over the morning rush-hour also! Not something I'm used to... I'm from a city of just over 80,000 people, and Calgary is over a million people. I couldn't find a good parking spot at the train station either. Over 800 stalls, and they were all taken by 8:20 this morning. Note to self: Leave earlier! I think I may try to figure out which bus near me goes to the train station so I don't even have to drive there and worry about parking. Anyways, I miraculously got on the right train and made it to the University (on the other side of the city). I was just so thrilled that I made it there okay! Then I realized I had no idea where to go from there... Luckily there was a big crowd of students that also just got off the train, so I stayed with the crowd and followed the signs to the orientation. I made it! I got my little info package, and then we had to sit within our faculty, which was marked off on the chairs. I have a strategy to meet new people: I look for someone about my age, dressed similar to me, who looks just as lost as me, and sit next to them. I know I'm closed minded sometimes when it comes to meeting new people... but it works. So I sat next to this girl, looked through my various brochures, and struck up a conversation. Her name was Michelle (my middle name), and she was really nice. We got along better than I could've hoped for! So my second goal of the day (the first was just to make it there, on time) was acheived. I had been determined not to spend the whole day walking around alone. She's a math major, but within the faculty of science. Anyways, the introduction for us "transfer" students in the gym was really annoying. It seemed like a mock prep-ralley for the school. And they made everyone give off this mock patriotism for this school, that we're all equally new too and unfamiliar with. It was really stupid. No wonder I always skipped prep-ralleys in high school! Michelle and I had seperate seminars to go to, but met up again for lunch. She's been living in Calgary her whole life, so had a lot to tell me about living in the city, which was appreciated. We then went on a campus tour. So disorganized! There were two student leaders for a group of about 20 of us. One was a girl in her 4th year of Chemistry, and she looked like she was about 13 or 14 years old, and didn't have much of a presence or loud voice. A poor choice I thought to lead a group in a loud and crowded school. She was nice and quite informative though. And the guy with her just seemed to be a tag-along. The tour seemed really random, but it was sort of useful. I'm going to give myself a tour tomorrow and figure out where all my classes are and labs. I'm not to worried about getting lost, it doesn't seem to hard to figure out, and all my classes are on the same end of campus. I'm a little worried about some of my courses. Like Chem and Math I haven't taken since grade 11. I hope it comes back to me! I'm not afraid to ask for help though. Anyways, I had an exciting day. Learned how to use the train, learned my way around campus, met someone new, it was fun! I'm interested to see what the university is really like once classes start.

Chris is staying in Red Deer tonight at his parent's house, he has a lot of work to do up there today and again tomorrow and didn't want to drive back and forth both days. It's our first night away from each other since... well I can't even remember since when. It's strange, but kind of nice too...  Peace and Quiet!

10 SAY HI!.

Well if my nephew can find his way around campus ANYBODY can... ;-)

Glad to hear you made it there ok.... Little Ralphies Train (LRT or C-train) is great for getting around the city but I WILL tell you this - avoid going downtown by yourself late at night, especially past the East Village/Stampede Grounds. Things can get a little hairy down there.

Kyle starts classes on Monday so if ya see a dazed and confused red head wandering around the campus just cuff him upside the head....

Thats what I do... ;-)

Enjoy your weekend!

hey, Brittany! I'm glad that you found your way to the train station and to school - accomplishing your first day goals!! That definately sets you off to a good start! Don't feel too "closed minded" about your method of finding people to connect with. It's so intimidating to meet new people! I'm worse, i think, because i always gravitate towards people who look like they are... less attractive than me, with similar self-esteem issues. This doesn't seem to be the best way of forming healthy relationships!!! Anyway, i'm settling into school - i'm on my third day of classes. It's all very exciting, a bit overwhelming as i see how much homework there's going to be... but i think things will be fine. Things are going awesome w/ LeBoy - he was at the same job, actually, until this morning - they have been messing w/ his hours and his duties and he was really stressing about it, and he luckily had another job offer (where he'll be working with tools, hurray his fave, and making about 5 times as much as working at the hotel). Anyway, i think that's enough of an update - this is practically a blog unto itself. I hope classes go well and that you have a nice relaxing evening to yourself in the new house. Seeya!
